Suicide under
the Spiritist perspective
Intellectual and moral
progress do not always go
together. The
title of the Editorial this
week explains why high
technological achievements,
recorded over the last few
years across the globe, have
not been accompanied by a
similar speed of moral
development.
Among the highlights of this
Edition, we call the
reader's attention to the
interview conducted by our
volunteer, Orson Peter
Carrara, with fellow writer
Ironildo Boselli, who is the
author of the book
“Obsession, realities and
challenges”. He is also the
current chairman of the
Curator Council, which is
part of the Spiritist
Américo Bairral Foundation,
that sponsors Bairral
Institute of Psychiatry. In
the interview, our colleague
from Sao Paulo talks about
this outstanding institution
and its work.
Another highlight is the
Special by Gebaldo José de
Sousa on the topic of
suicide. In his article, in
addition to analyzing the
theme in the light of the
spiritist teachings, the
author says that Mary of
Nazareth is one of the
spirits, dedicated to the
noble task of helping the
suffering beings that
departed from the physical
world, caused due to a
suicide
act.
Paul Salerno describes, in a
special article, how the
event “Catarinense
Mediumship Symposium”, held
on 8th December in the city
of Itajaí, was a big
success. Among the speakers
were Divaldo Franco, Raul
Teixeira and many others.

Yesterday – 15 January – was
another celebration of the
launching of the “The
Mediums’ Book”, by Allan
Kardec, first published in
1861. This book is the
second of five major
fundamental works written by
the founder of Spiritism.
