The greatest Brazilian
of all times
Based on "The Greats", a format created by BBC television, SBT concluded on 3rd October 2012, the competition that elected by vote of the Brazilian people, Chico Xavier as the person who did the most for the nation and that stood out for his legacy to society, ie - using the definition adopted by the program - "The Greatest Brazilian of All Times."
In justification of the creation of the program, SBT said it would be more than a program, because there would be, in fact, a great national debate able to mobilize Brazilians in order to answer a single question: "Who is the Greatest Brazilian Ever?".
Drawing on the same format, different countries had already chosen its greatest figures. In England, Winston Churchill was the winner. The Italians chose Leonardo da Vinci. Nelson Mandela was the most voted in South Africa. And similarly, Salvador Allende in Chile, and Charles de Gaulle in France, they were chosen.
For the reader who has not followed the program can learn about it, here's how the contest evolved.
In the first phase, people participated in a democratic, freely stating their favorite. Then it was registered more than 1 million votes only. The indications were limited, however, to the names of native and naturalized Brazilians who do not have any link with the SBT.
Thus, democratically it was made a list of notable nominated people, and in the next step, the ratio of the 100 most votes, which can be accessed by clicking on this link – http://www.sbt.com.br/omaiorbrasileiro/candidatos/?nc=2#classificacao
At each step, besides knowing the names of the top rated, viewers of SBT were also knowing the history and work of the finalists, always with the presence of guests and participation of the audience, so in that way the program has progressed and came up the definition of the 12 best situated in the public preference, namely: Ayrton Senna, Pelé, Oscar Niemeyer, Sister Dulce, Chico Xavier, Lula, Getúlio Vargas, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Santos Dumont, Princess Isabel, Juscelino Kubitschek and Tiradentes.
In the knockout stage, Chico Xavier and Sister Dulce were confronted and the public has decided in favor of the medium, with 50.5% of the votes. In the semifinal, Ayrton Senna was the other contestant and Chico Xavier won with 63.8% of the votes.
There were then, for the final three names: Princess Isabel, Santos Dumont and Chico Xavier, whereupon the medium was crowned the winner with 71.4% of the vote sent the SBT via internet and SMS.(1)
Analyzing clearly the result of the competition held by the SBT, it is undeniable that the result did justice to a person we know very well and spiritists admire even more, regardless of the title he has now been granted.
For his remarkable kindness and dedication with which he voted the mission received in his career in Brazilian lands, it is completely natural that people would do him this honor, we consider, however, quite simple in the face of much that he made and offered in its fruitful existence.
