A chat with the couple
Marlene and Mário Gonçalves
This week’s editorial,
“Ecumenism and the church”,
examines the new directions
that Pope Francis is
impressing on the actions of
the Vatican, especially with
regard to the need to
further the ecumenical
dialogue, relegated to a
secondary role by the Church
in recent years.
One of the highlights of
this edition is the
interview given to our
collaborator Orson Peter
Carrara by the couple
Marlene and Mário Gonçalves,
from Ribeirão Preto-SP. Both
born of spiritist families,
they devote themselves
diligently to the
dissemination and expansion
of study program known as
ESDE - Systematic Study of
Spiritism. The work that
both have been performing in
this area is the central
theme of the interview.
Another highlight of the
week is the special article
titled “The Star Child
Case”, written by our
colleague João Fernandes da
Silva Jr., from Biguaçu-SC,
which comments on a strange
discovery that occurred in
the 1930s, in a region
located near Cooper Canyon,
Mexico, and the conclusions
reached by the researchers.
The spiritist planetary
mission of Divaldo Franco is
the subject of a special
article written by the
colleague Washington Luiz N.
Fernandes, from São
Paulo-SP, which presents the
figures on the extraordinary
work that this well-known
medium and speaker has been
conducting in the service of
the worldwide dissemination
of Spiritism.

indicates this week two
important facts in the
history of Spiritism. On

discarnation in 1900 of Dr.
Adolfo Bezerra de Menezes,
the Doctor of the Poor,
writer, journalist,
politician and one of the
most important spiritist
figures in Brazil and the
world. On April 12th,
the discarnation in 1927 of
Léon Denis, writer, and
renowned lecturer,
admittedly the most
important spiritist author
in the world after Kardec.
