Milo the ostrich and
his family

An ostrich named Milo who had a beautiful plumage liked to walk around the countryside as he looked for food or had fun playing with his friends.

However, Milo did not like to meet with others of his species, because they always wanted to steal his food. So he would rather stay isolated from his kind.

One day, while he looked for food in the vegetation, he saw a friend of his who came after him, wanting to take

what he had gathered. So, Milo, not willing to fight with him, walked away.

A female ostrich, Pipa, went to talk to him and noting her approaching Milo stood still, waiting.

They talked, played and walked around together. As they were hungry, Milo gathered more herbs for them to eat.

They became friends and began to enjoy being together. When another male would approach, Milo ran after him, chasing him.

Some time later, Pipa laid a huge egg! Then another and then

another one! And as ostrich eggs are very large, reaching weights of up to 1 kilo and a half, the babies would also be big and strong, as was said by their more experienced ostrich friends.

So Pipa should be incubating the family eggs. During the day, she remained in the nest, and at night, it was Milo who was in charge of incubating the eggs. Soon, two little beautiful male  ostriches and a female ostrich were born.

The family's joy was great. They all celebrated the birth of the little ones.

Now Milo and Pipa really had a family, and lived with love and affection, caring for their young.

One day, however, a large jaguar showed up and seeing the ostrich chicks started prowling in the bushes and often watched from the trees above waiting for a time when the parents would be distracted to rob their babies.

However, Milo and Pipa, who loved their family very much were careful and did not leave the chicks alone, keeping always close by. Until one afternoon, the famished jaguar, desperate for food, decided to attack her prey.

Despite the size of the jaguar, the ostriches were also big and defended their family. Then, taking advantage of a time when the jaguar was distracted watching the babies, while the ostrich mom took care of them, the ostrich dad went behind the jaguar, who had not seen him approaching, and jumped over the jaguar.

As he was strong and able to fight, Milo grabbed the jaguar and held it in his wings, attacking with his huge beak. Soon after, the jaguar managed to escape and disappeared in the woods, for the ostrich family’s satisfaction.

Their joy was great! Everyone was happy because the jaguar could not destroy the ostrich family.

Some time later, the couple's offspring had grown up a lot! It was necessary to take care of feeding them because they were insatiable. So, care had to be doubled, as they started chasing after girlfriends because they were growing up fast and soon would reach adulthood. And daddy Milo and mommy Pipa were happy to see that their kids were now becoming adults, and would soon have their own babies.

Thus, in their farm they grew up increasingly, full of spirit, joy and the satisfaction of seeing their family increase more and more.
