Where does your
passion for
music come from?
How did you
discover this
talent?
My father, a
meek, humble and
simple man, came
from a family of
musicians. My
mother, “a
constant
singer,” brought
us up singing.
We are seven
brothers and
sisters and only
three of us are
not singers.
From a very
young age, I saw
music as the air
or the water,
something we
cannot do
without! At the
age of nine, I
was already I
young singer
with a nice
voice.
And how did you
get the
inspiration for
your work of
teaching love
through music?
It happened
naturally, as
though it was a
natural part of
me. From a very
young age I
showed a passion
for classical
religious music.
The vicar of our
Catholic church
used to invite
me to sing in
neighbouring
areas too. I
went along with
my guitar under
my arm, full of
joy, and was
rewarded with a
bag of sweet
peanuts. People
used to get all
emotional and
cry when they
heard a child
singing. I did
not understand
why they were
crying. I used
to think: Is it
that bad? So
from the age of
9 until 14 I
went along rural
areas with
different
priests, singing
the Gospel of
Jesus. At the
age of 18 I
became a
Spiritist, as a
result of the
ostensive
mediumship that
I had since I
was four and I
began to sing in
Spiritist
events.
How do you feel
during your
performances?
I feel like I am
in a different
dimension, where
the soul gets
united with the
cosmos and
expands in a
manner that is
difficult to
describe. I
could compare it
to a spiritual
ecstasy of
intense
lightness,
plenitude and
contentment.
And do you
describe the
spiritual
influence you
feel?
It is
magnificent.
There are many
Spirits who are
committed to
this task and
who join us
regularly. I am
talking about
singers,
maestros,
songwriters and
all types of
musicians. They
collaborate all
the time and
take an active
part in the
performance.
Some people say
they can hear
choirs and other
instruments
being played,
even though I
only take my
guitar on stage.
I feel that I am
taken over by
profound
emotion. My heat
pounds and I
release litres
of ectoplasm. I
feel like I am
levitating and
that I am
totally in
peace! I can see
clearly that
other Spirits
carry out
healing while I
sing and I
notice when
disturbed
Spirits are
brought in from
regions of
suffering to be
treated or
energised. Very
often I see in
the room the
Spirits of
relatives of
people who are
in the audience.
In truth,
wonderful things
take place when
the songs are
being sung.
And what is the
reaction from
the public?
The public gets
deeply and
positive
involved and
often people
cannot keep the
tears away.
People often
describe how
well they feel
when they hear
the songs and
the comforting
feeling they
get. They feel
encouraged to
carry on with
their inner
reform and often
feel the
presence of
their loved ones
who have already
departed to the
Spirit World.
Are the songs
all written by
you? Would you
say they are
dictated by the
Spirits or do
they inspire
you?
I have a vast
and diverse
repertoire. I
choose songs
that talk about
God, about good
deeds, peace and
love. Many of
the songs are
written through
mediumship. I
wrote a whole CD
in that manner.
But I also write
songs through
inspiration.
Is there
anything in
particular that
you would like
to share with us
from your
musical art
experience?
I would say that
musical art is
the air that I
breathe. There
is no Elizabete
Lacerda without
music. I get
testimonies
every day from
people who say
how much they
have benefitted
from that music.
I can
distinguish what
comes from me
and what comes
from the
Spiritual
Benefactors. I
know that I put
myself at the
disposal of the
Benefactors and
they act in
accordance with
the needs. Many
people describe
how they have
been cured of
depression, of
serious
illnesses, who
gave up the idea
of committing
suicide or who
introduced
radical changes
to their lives.
Others come to
me and encourage
me to continue
singing. But
some Spiritist
Centres still
reject some of
my work. They
only accept the
songs written
through
mediumship. But
I disagree with
that. I believe
we can be
inspired to
write beautiful
songs. That has
been my
struggle, to
make it clear
that there is
not such a thing
as “Spiritist
Art”, but only
ART, which does
not need any
label.
