In a day like today –
January, 15 – it appeared in
Paris, France the first
edition of The
Medium’s Book, Allan
Kardec. It was 1861. The aim
of the new work, Kardec
wrote: "After exposing the
philosophical part of
Spiritist science in this
book (referring to The
Spirits’ Book), we give
this practical work, for the
use of those who wish to
deal with the
manifestations, whether to
do it personally, or to find
out about the phenomena they
are allowed to observe. They
will see, there, the
obstacles they may encounter
and also have a means of
avoiding them. These two
works, while the second is a
follow-up to the first, are
to some extent independent
of each other. But whoever
wishes to deal seriously
with matter should say that
he first read The
Spirits’ Book because
it contains basic principles
without which some parts of
it might become difficult to
comprehend".
