Keeping The Peace

Caio had come home sad and afflict. At school a classmate was constantly bullying him.

He did not want to eat lunch that day because he was not hungry so Caio went to his room and laid down on his bed. His mother, who had seen him arrive, called him to lunch but he said he did not feel hungry.

She knew that he should be in his room as it was there where he would usually took refuge whenever he had a problem. His mother decided to respect his decision. After lunch she would go find out what was happening to her youngest son.

After the rest of the family had finished their lunch, she fixed Caio a plate and took it to his room. She opened the door with a smile and asked:

- Caio! Are you hungry already, dear?
- No, mom. I do not want to eat now.

- But it's delicious, Caio! I made those potato dumplings you love plus your favourite vegetable salad. Get up and eat some!

Sad, Caio began to cry. He covered his face while tears fell uncontrollably. His mother hugged him and put him on her lap, full of affection:

- What happened, honey? Did you fight with anyone?

The boy began to cry even more. The mother, with him still on her lap, said:

- Caio! Nothing that happens has the right to take the peace from our heart! What happened?

The boy cried a little more then explained:

- Roberto is always bullying me! I do not understand why he does it! It seems like he wants to torment me, you know?

The mother thought about it for a moment then explained:

- Caio, you are a child of peace, you are always well with everyone. And maybe that's what he cannot stand! Maybe he wants to be like you but cannot! That's why he gets angry and irritated! Try to keep your peace which is precious. Even if someone wants to take your calm from you, do nothing. Maybe your classmate cannot stand exactly that. He wants to see you suffer like him, you see?

- Maybe you're right, Mom. Roberto likes to annoy everyone!

- Then try to keep your heart calm and always avoid fighting. Think that whoever hurts you is in need of peace. Maintain your tranquility and kindness at all times.

Caio nodded agreeing with his mother, who then continued:

- Sweetheart, try to help him! Remember that Nature respects the law of balance and seeks to keep it always.

The boy raised his head remembering something and smiled.

- Mom, sometimes he even hides my books, forcing me to look for them! I know he does it to make me angry but I do not care. I laugh!

The mother smiled at the words of her son who kept his cool always.

- Caio, you're a treasure! - she said, hugging him with infinite love. Then, holding him close to her loving heart, she said:

- Try to always remember that even when everyone is mad with rage, our planet Earth keeps unperturbed and the Sun, God's gift to us, keeps blazing in space!

She looked up at the sky through the open bedroom window and concluded:

- Living is common to all but living in peace with oneself is reserved for the few.

The little boy hugged his mother and nodded in agreement:

- I got it, Mom. When people are not at peace they want to push us to the same path. I feel sorry for them and I'm going to pray to Jesus to protect them always!...

The mother hugged her son, her eyes filled with tears:

- Dear Caio, I always thank God, our Father, for the wonderful son He sent me. May you always continue this way, spreading peace everywhere!

The next day Caio arrived at school and saw

Roberto coming to meet him. He stopped, looked at him, and smiled, then they walked through the gate together.

Roberto, looking sad, said:

- Caio, could you forgive me for what I did to you yesterday?

- I have nothing to forgive, Roberto. I understand how you feel...

His classmate began to cry and Caio had him sit on a remote bench so that no one could see him crying. Then, putting his hand on the boy’s arm, he said:

- Roberto, you must be unhappy, my friend,

and I understand.

- Caio, can you forgive me for the times I hurt you? In fact, my parents are not well and want to separate! What will become of us? I do not want to see my family fall apart! This is killing me... I feel anger inside me!...

- Roberto, my parents always say that we need to pray hard to keep the peace in and out of our home. Let's go to my house. My mom will help us, I'm sure!

Roberto accepted and they went to Caio's house. The mother, on seeing them arrive, was surprised but Caio explained that Roberto was not well and would like a prayer.

The mother sat down with the boys in the living room, then elevated her thought by saying a prayer to Jesus and asking Him to bless Roberto's family so that all would be well and peace would return to that home. When she finished, Roberto felt better and was grateful for the help he had received.

The next day, when they met again, Roberto told Caio that his parents were going to stay together and that made him very happy.

- That’s thanks to the prayer your mother said, Caio! Now all is well again!

And they exchanged a long hug, sealing the friendship that had finally grown between them.
