1. All Spirits that
people the Universe were
created by God simple
and ignorant, that is,
with no prior knowledge,
but destined likewise to
perfection. Besides, it
is in the state of
perfection that they can
enjoy true happiness,
due to the full
knowledge of the laws
that regulate life and
its entire living.
2. The Spiritist
teaching is direct: all
Spirits can one day be
perfect, but between
these two ends –
creation and perfection
– there is a great way
to go for all Spirits
and represents the
gradual knowledge of the
laws that regulate life
and the work of
creation.
3. God provides all his
children the necessary
means for this
achievement, even
creating necessities in
the Spirits, who, in
order to meet them, need
to act.
4. Thus, by their own
action, the Spirits
progress, acquire
knowledge, develop and
educate their feelings,
gradually acquiring the
virtues that will
provide them with the
state of perfection.
Men created evil as they
got away from God
5. It is easy to
understand the ascension
of the Spirit, from the
state of ignorance to
the state of wisdom; it
depends solely on his
work and efforts. This
is a fact that is needed
to emphasize, since the
work is part of it, one
that cannot be
transferred, once all
the necessary resources
are provided by God to
everyone, in equal
proportions.
6. God – according to
Spiritism – does not
favor one from another,
therefore he is just,
being the Father of all,
has got no
predilections. The
Creator only says: “This
is the law that shall
constitute thy conduct;
it shall take thee to
the end; everything
according to it is good,
everything against it is
evil. You shall have
free rein to either
observe or break this
law, and then the future
is up to you”.
7. From the teaching
that comes from the High
Spirits, we learned that
God did not create evil
and that all His laws
are good. It was man who
created evil as he got
away from God and His
laws. Had he followed
them, he would never be
off the track.
8. It is also observed
that it is the Law of
freedom that regulates
the progress of Spirits,
because through his work
and use of his free-will
that they are going, in
a volunteer and
conscious fashion,
achieving the virtues
they do not possess and
enhancing their
characteristics.
It is up to the Spirits
to get to perfection
9. Talking about the
choice the creature
makes of following this
or that path, the High
Spirits say: “Free-will
is developed in
proportion as the spirit
acquires the
consciousness of him.
Freedom would not exist
for the spirit if his
choice were solicited by
a cause independent of
his will. The cause
which determines his
choice is not in him,
but is exterior to him,
in the influences to
which he voluntarily
yields in virtue of the
freedom of his will. It
is this choice that is
represented tinder the
grand figure of the fall
of man and of original
sin. Some spirits have
yielded to temptation;
others have withstood
it.”
(The Spirits’ Book,
item 122).
10. On the sequence,
when Kardec asks if the
influence exerted by the
inferior Spirits only
occur upon the
individual at its
origin, the immortals
explain: “It follows him
through all the phases
of his existence as a
spirit, until he has
acquired such thorough
self-command that evil
spirits renounce the
attempt to obsess him.
11. It is concluded from
all that the eternal
happiness is waiting for
us and we can enjoy
it when we get to the
condition of Pure
Spirits.
Means to achieve it, God
gives us.
It is up to us, through
work and proper use of
free-will, to make sure
we will get there.
