Blessed sickness

Peter and his friends were playing with marbles. One day, one of them was tired of playing and said to the rest of the group:

— What a boring day! There is nothing for us to do.

Peter kicked some stones, and said:

— Yes, it’s boreing. What if we play hide and seek?

Duda then said:

— Again? We played with it before!

— What if we play with a cat? We could set its tale on fire.  — suggested John.

— No!  — said Duda — We have done it before, remember? The cat ended up burned, and my mom was really angry with me.

Peter agreed:

— It’s true. Let’s make up something different.

— But what? — Duda asked. — We played football, ran after Peter’s dog, eat ice cream...

— I know! —John said — Let’s steal fruit from the old Simon’s house!

They all agreed. They had at last found something different to do. Suddenly, Peter’s mom asked him to go inside and take a shower before dinner time. The boys decided to do that on the following day.

Peter at night put his pijamas and laid down. His mother came to say good night and they prayed together. At that moment, he felt bad for everything he had done and wanted to change. The boy prayed to Jesus and asking help to become a better person and avoid life’s temptations.

He remembered his friends were waiting for him. He then asked his mom to wake him up early and said:

— I agreed to meet Duda and John this morning.

His mother then said:

— My son, please be careful. I don’t like to see you around these boys. They are very bad behaved.

— Don’t worry, mom. I won’t make any mistakes.

His mother kissed him and said:

— Ok, my son. Have a good night! Shall your guardian protect you and inspire you good thoughts.

On the following day, Peter woke up feeling quite sick. He had fever. His mother examined him and found some spots in his body. He couldn’t  wake  up  and  go  out  to meet  his

friends.

Soon later, a neighbout came and asked:

— Did you know what happened? This morning two boys tried to steel Simon’s fruits and were beaten by his dogs.

His mother then asked, very concerned:

— What about the boys?

— They are well, but a bit wounded. They could have even died!

Peter heard the conversaton and then started to cry:

— Thank God I was sick!

He then confessed everything to his mother, who heard him in silence.

— Do you realise what you could have been through? Thank Jesus and your guardian angel who protected you. Do you remember the prayer we have done yesterday? The prayer protects us always, and it’s precious through difficult times. We should always be good to deserve the help our our spiritual friends.

— It’s true, mom. I will be a different boy as from today. I promisse.

He then said:

— What a blessed sickness!
