Education and its role among children and adolescents
Cairbar Schutel used to take to his home the homeless sick people that arrived to Matão (SP) and used to look after them with the love and dedication that have already become known among Spiritists.
When, however, he could notice that the person wouldn’t be able to recover from the illness, he prepared him or her for the transition that many of us fear and we usually name as death.
The existence of a just and merciful Father, the continuity of life, the imortality of the soul, the successive lives, the conditions in the spiritual plan are themes that the notable apostle certainly explained before the observant and hopeful eyes of his pupils, preparing them for the stage which starts with the body decease.
The Spiritsm’s Codifier referred to that subject when explaining why we should talk about Spiritism among adults. And said that the aim of such a talk is to do exactly what Cairbar did, and did so well, in the small city of Matão.
In the same context, Kardec also explained why we should talk about the Doctrine to youngsters, affirming that the objective of doing that with children is to prepare them for life as well as providing the important resources so that they can achieve on Earth what has been planned in the spirit-world.
We remembered this subject when we read the text written by Claudia Werdine in the previous edition regarding her meeting with Spiritist youngsters in Netherlands.
These days, not only in Europe but in the whole world, we can see that the youth is bewildered, due to many reasons, such as Education issues, which should be a priority to be addressed.
Life, according to the beautiful image used by Emmanuel, can be compared to a long journey. What we call youth is equivalent to the departure of a boat, which will face the difficulties and vicissitudes inherent to a long travel. The senescence corresponds to the arrival at the port.
And what about the infancy? Infancy, according to Emmanuel’s words, would be the preparation phase, when experienced sailors would make sure that, when the moment is proper, the beginners are able to conduct the boat to its destination.
Unfortunately, parents clearly miss a deeper knowledge about theses value nowadays.
It’s necessary that they understand that our kids are old acquaintances who return to Earth in order to resume unfinished projects, repairing mistakes made, correcting silly attitudes and looking to constructing a new world, where the happiness of others don’t depend on the disgrace of others.
It would be also important to know why we are born, why we live, what objective we have here. Once aware of that, they could play their roles more efficiently, as educators of the ones trusted by God in the current existence.
St. Agostinho (Spirit), reporting to humankind, asked us to understand that, when we produce a body, the soul incarnated in it comes from the space to progress, and that is necessary to apply all our love in order to makes this soul be closer to God. This is the mission we received, whose reward we will be obtained if we perform the task faithfully.
Let’s remember – said the same spirit – that God will ask to each father and each mother: What did you do with the child trusted to you? If, because of your fault, he or she stayed undeveloped, as a punishment, you will see him or her among suffering spirits, since they dependend on you to be in a different situation. Then, you, full of remorse, will beg for the chance to repair your fault; asking for another incarnation for both of you so that you can provide better care, and then your child will recognize your effort and will reward you with love. (The Gospel According to Spiritist, chapter XIV, item 9.)
