Text for reading

39. Jesus tells Pilate nothing in his defense - At dawn, the chief priests, elders, the scribes and the whole council met and took Jesus to Pilate, governor of the province, who asked him: "Thou art the King of the Jews ? "Jesus answered him, said:" You say." The chief priests accused him, so many things, but he answered nothing. Pilate asked him a second time, but Jesus remained silent, a fact that Pilate did marvel. Following the governor asked the crowd if she wanted it to be released King of the Jews, because it was habit hold the feast one prisoner indicated by the people. Spurred by the chief priests, the crowd called for Barabbas loose, not Jesus, calling for the crucifixion of the Master. So Pilate released Barabbas and handed Jesus over to be crucified. After whipping, the soldiers took the Messiah to the courtroom and called the whole cohort. Ali dressed in purple and put her head a crown of thorns. And began to salute him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" Then they struck his head with a reed, spat on him, and kneeled down, ironically loved it. Soon after, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes, causing him to be crucified. One Simon of Cyrene, father of Alexander and Rufus, who passed by, was forced to carry the cross up to Golgotha, where the crucifixion took place. (Mark 15:1 to 15:22.)

40. "My God, my God, how thou dost glorify me!" - Above the body of Jesus was written on the cross, a phrase that indicated its objection: THE KING OF THE JEWS. Were crucified with him two robbers, one on the right, another left, and fulfilling thereby the scripture says: and was numbered with the transgressors. Those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, "Ah! Thou overthrown the temple, and in three days buildest, save thyself, and down from the cross." Likewise also the chief priests and scribes said, laughing: "He saved others, and cannot save himself. Descend now from the cross, Christ, King of Israel, that we may see and believe." And the same injury he did to those who were crucified beside him. In the ninth hour(1) Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eli, Eli, lamma sabachthani, this is my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?(2) (Mark, 15:26 to 15:34.)

41. Joseph of Arimathea takes the body of Jesus for burial - Listening Master saying Eli, Eli, some people who were there thought he was calling for Elijah. One of them ran, then filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it on a reed, gave him to drink, saying: "Let us see whether Elijah will come get him." Jesus gave, however, a loud cry and breathed his last, and the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The distances of the cross were women: Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the lowest and of Joses, and Salome. Arrival in the afternoon, as was the preparation day, that is, the eve of the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, highly respected and honored Senator, who asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Arimathea, who had bought fine linen, it involved the body of Jesus and laid in a tomb carved in the rock, placing a stone at the door, under the watchful eyes of Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph, who watched closely where they put him. (Mark, 15:35 to 15:47.)

42. Magdalene finds the tomb empty and a young man in - After the Sabbath, the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices to anoint him go and went to the tomb soon after sunrise. On the way, they asked each other: "Who will roll the stone from the tomb?" "Coming, however, the site of the tomb, they saw the stone, though large, was rolled away. Entering the tomb, then faced with a young man sitting on the right, dressed in a suit long, white, which greatly astonished. The youth, however, reassured, saying, "Do not be afraid: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified, raised, not here: behold the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he goes before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he told you." The three women left in haste, without saying anything, as it were possessed of great awe and wonder. (Mark 16:1 to 16:8.)

43. Jesus appears to the apostles and gives one last piece of advice - after Jesus appeared to the eleven apostles when they were at the table and severely rebuked his stubborn unbelief, because they did not believe or those who had seen him risen. And he told them: "Go to the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized shall be saved. He that believeth not shall be damned. Behold the wonders will follow those who believe: In my name they shall cast out devils, speak new languages, take up serpents and if they drink deadly poison, not hurt them, they will lay their hands on the sick and they shall recover." That said, Jesus was taken up(3) to heaven. (Mark, 16:14 to 16:19).

Notes
:

(1) Ninth hour corresponds in our count, at 15 hours.

(2) The general and philologist Milton O'Reilly de Sousa said in an article published in The Immortal March/87 that the correct translation of four words is: My God, my God, how thou dost glorify me!, Quite different from the issues contained in the Brazilian and more consistent with the exceptional nature of the mission of Jesus, the spiritual ruler of Earth.

(3)
This fact is what is called the Ascension Catholic scholar, which is, as seen, closely linked to the resurrection as to both forms a single mystery. According to Spiritism, there was no resurrection appearance of Jesus but just coated his spiritual body, as happened with the spirits of Elijah, Moses and Tobias, who also, according to the Bible, manifested visibly to men.

Answers to Questions

1. The people chose Barabbas to be released, and not Jesus. Who was Barabbas?

Barabbas, who was arrested with other rioters, had committed murder in the insurrection. He was part of a group of Israelis who refused the yoke of Rome on his country. (Mark 15:6 to 15:11.)

2. At that time, according to Mark, Jesus was crucified? And when it expired?

Jesus was crucified and died on the third hour, the ninth hour, i.e., at 15 hours the same day. (Mark, 15:22 to 15:37.)

3. To whom, according to Mark, Jesus appeared first after the resurrection?

Jesus was raised early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast seven devils. (Mark 16:1 to 16:10.)

4. What was the reaction of the disciples of Jesus to Mary Magdalene heard the news of the resurrection?

Mary Magdalene, after he saw Jesus, came and announced the fact to those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept, but they did not believe. Then, the Master has manifested itself in another form unto two of them, ranging from road to field. They told the others, but even so they believed. (Mark, 16:10 to 16:13.)

5. That recommendation did Jesus appear to the eleven disciples in Galilee?

Before recommending, Jesus threw them in the face of unbelief and hardness of heart, because they have not believed us that they had seen already risen. And recommended: Go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out devils, speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, not hurt them, and put their hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mark, 16:14 to 16:18.)
