The hidden treasure

One man wished to find a big treasure. He loved pearls, so he decided to dive to see if he could find a specific pearl. He knew it was worth a lot.

His wife, who was a very practical woman, suggested:

— Buy pearls at the shop. There are many of them at necklaces, earrings and rings; some of them are quite cheap.

The man laughed at his wife’s naive ness and said:

— I don’t want pearls which are manufactured by machines and are found in vast quantity at different shops. I want real pearls, the ones that are found inside certain type of oysters. These are very beautiful and have a special brightness. They are very valuable.

His wife was feeling quite concerned:

— Don’t go my dear husband. The sea is quite dangerous.

The man said good-bye to his wife and said:

— Don’t worry. I have faith in God, who will help me.

The man decided to get all equipment required for the dive: special clothing, mask and oxygen tube.

He woke up quite early and decided to go searching for his treasure. He felt brave enough to face the dangers of the sea. He dived for several days but wasn’t able to find the pearl of his dreams.

He didn’t give up. He persevered until one day he was able to find what he was looking for: he

found the most beautiful pearl anyone ever found inside an oyster.

He thanked God for the blessing received and decided to go back home. He carried his precious treasure with care and kindness.

Many people would like to find treasures, just like this man, but don’t have the

necessary conditions: willingness, courage, perseverance and faith.

Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a dealer who searches for good pearls. Once he found one of great value, he sold everything he had and bought it.

The same happened to the diver who left everything behind to run after his treasure. He has done everything possible to find it. When he found it, he felt full of joy.

Jesus’ Gospel is a treasure of immense value that enriches our soul. We won’t need anything else once we find the Master’s teachings.
