The car collection

Andrew loves to go out for walks in his neighborhood. He would take his bike and ride around the area he lived. He felt so free when he did that.

Andrew dreamed about learning how to drive his dad’s car. He was only twelve years old which is why he couldn’t do it.

— When you grow up you will learn how to drive. For now, be happy with your bike.

He thought for some time... He would have to wait many years to be able to learn how to drive. Once riding his bike, he came closer to his dad’s car. He didn’t realise he damaged its painting with the bike.

— Oooops! What will happen now?

Andrew knew his dad would be really angry with him. He decided to leave the bike inside the house and speak to him. His dad was sat down at the living room reading a newspaper. He felt so full of fear once he saw him.

He started to cry and said:

— Daddy! Something terrible has just happened!

— What happened Andrew? — his dad asked.

— I damaged the painting of your car, by mistake!... — He then told his dad what just happened.

He immediately went outside to check the damage. He then said:

— Andrew, this is going to cost a lot of money to be fixed. I will make you pay me back from the pocket money you receive from us so you learn to respect things that belong to others.

He cried and said:

— Daddy, I am so sorry! I didn’t mean to do it! The pocket money I get from you is so little...

— Oh, right son. I will forgive you, but be careful ok? This time it was just a small scratch but what if you hurt someone?

— I know, daddy. I recognise I made a mistake. This will never happen again, I promise.

Andrew felt quite relieved when his dad forgave him. He felt as if a huge burden was removed from his shoulders.

He then decided to go into his room but realised once there something wasn’t right. His cars’ collection was everywhere around the floor. Some of his toys were even broken.

He got furious. He ran after his little brother, who is just five years old. He

found him playing with his two friends in the garden.

— David! What have you done? Who gave you permission to get into my room and move my things around?

The little boy felt quite scared with his brother’s attitude. Andrew then shouted:

— I am not happy with your behaviour! You even destroyed some of my cars!...

He then grabbed his little brother by the neck, who then began to cry and shout:

— Mommy! Daddy! Help!

The little boy was trembling....

— You will pay for this! – Andrew shouted out loud, full of anger.

His friends ran after their dad, who then suddenly appeared outside in the garden:

— What is going on here? Stop this madness, Andrew!

— Dad, this little brat has destroyed my toys. He will have to pay for what he did!

— I won’t do this ever anymore, I am sorry — David cried out loud.

— I will never forgive you!

His dad then said:

— Andrew my son.... I just forgave you from a much bigger damage you caused and now you can’t forgive your little brother for this? Remember: Jesus said we should do to others what we want others to do to us.

Andrew then looked down, feeling quite embarrassed.... His dad had a serious look on his face when he said:

— Very well then. You will now have to pay for the car to be fixed. You will not receive any pocket money for many months, but will certainly learn a good lesson.

— You are right, dad. I was wrong.

He then came closer to little David and said:

— David, we were always good friends. I am sorry I hurt you.

— But I broke your car! I can pay you with this coin I got as a present! — the little boy replied, feeling quiet sad.

— Don’t worry about it. Keep your coin for yourself. I will fix my cards. Oh, I have got so many of them! If you like them so much, I will give you one of them.

Andrew learned a new lesson. From this day onwards, he became much closer to his little brother. They are playing together with the cars that belong to Andrew...
