The Mediums' Book

Allan Kardec

(Part 44 and final)

With this edition ends the methodical study of "The Mediums' Book" by Allan Kardec, the second of the works that make up the Kardecian Pentateuch, whose first edition was published in 1861. 

The answers to the questions suggested for discussion was the end of the text below. The English version, was based on translation of Anna Blackwell.

A. What is the main task of spirits among men? 

B. What, according to Rousseau, Spiritualism, is resurrected by Spiritism, can make to society? 

C. What is the way in which Kardec worked by bringing the Spiritism?

403. Are you quite sure of what should be a spiritualist meeting? No, because, in your zeal, do you think that the best that you have to do is gather as many people as possible, so the convencerdes. Devel-ganai you. The less you go, the more will obtain. Above all, by ascending moral is that exercerdes atraireis unbelievers, much more than the phenomena that obtiverdes. Are you convinced that Spiritualism entail moral reform. 404. True Spiritism, is distinguishing grace and charity. Admits no rivalry, unless the well that everyone can do. All groups who register this motto on their flags extend hands to each other as good neighbors, friends that are not less because they do not inhabit the same house. (Chapter XXXI, item XXII, Fénelon)

405. The silence and recollection are essential for all serious communications. Never attain to that satisfy that condition only those who are driven by curiosity to your meetings. You invite, for the curious to look elsewhere, so that distraction of them constitute a cause of disturbance. (Chapter XXXI, item XXIII, St. Louis)

406. It is excellent work examining communications. It is never enough to deepen the questions and especially the answers. The error is easy for even the best intentions of animated spirits. Everything you create a duty of confidence dispensardes only limited to what obtiverdes, always subordinating it to the test, even in the case of the most authentic communication. (Chapter XXXI, item XXIV, Jorge)

407. Suppose that we saw in search of your applause? Make no mistake. Our goal is to make you better. Now when we see that our words produce no fruit, that your part it comes down in a sterile approval, we will seek more docile souls. We gave then the place to insist that only spirits talking, and these abound. If therefore ye so often deceived, as you queixai-only of yourselves. For us, the serious man is not he who refrains from laughing, but one whose words touch our hearts, that meditates and takes advantage of them. (Chapter XXXI, item XXV, Massillon)

408. Spiritualism should be to protect against the spirit of discord and dissension, but that spirit, since all time, comes brandishing his torch on humans. Spiritualists! well he can penetrate into your assemblies, and doubt not, seek to sow disaffection among you. Powerless, however, against those who will have to animate them the feeling of true charity. Stand therefore, constantly on guard and keep watch at the door of your heart, like that of your meetings, so that the enemy does not penetrate. Show yourselves, therefore, more patients, more worthy and more conciliatory than those in the highest degree find themselves penetrated the feelings of the duties imposed on them by the urbanity as far as the true spiritualism. 409. It is undeniable that by submitting the crucible of reason and logic all data and all communications received, will be easy to discover the absurdity and error. A medium can be fascinated, as a group may be mystified. But a severe check of the other groups, the acquired knowledge and high moral of directors of groups, major communications mediums, with a stamp of authenticity and logic of the finest spirits, will bring justice to these dictations quickly and cunning liars, emanating of deceiving spirits and evil. 410. Many communications is so absurd that while signed with the most reputable names, common sense is enough to make them patent falsehood. Others, however, is that the error between underhanded things usable, comes to deceive, sometimes preventing one can grasp it at first sight. (Chapter XXXI, items XXIX to XXXIV)

411. The cap. XXXII contains the spiritist vocabulary - indeed, a vocabulary skimpy compared with the constant of the book "Practical Instruction on the Manifestations Spiritualists," published in 1858 by Kardec. Nevertheless, the vocabulary contained in this book there are four entries not included in "Practice Directions": conceptual model, psychical, and typtology tiptólogo. (Chapter XXXII) 

Answers to questions

A. What is the main task of spirits among men? 

Spirits have main goal to make us progress. For that they help us as you can. Providence traced to revelations limits what they can do to men. Thus, the serious spirits keep silent about everything that is forbidden to advertise. Who ask the Superior Spirits wisdom, will never be mistaken, but one should not think that they would lose their time to hear all our follies and in predicting luck. This task is on account of trifling spirits, who enjoy it, just like the naughty kids. (The Book of Mediums, item 289, paragraph 11.)

B. What, according to Rousseau, Spiritualism, is resurrected by Spiritism, can make to society? 

Here's what Rousseau said: "If Spiritism resurrect spiritualism, will give the company the boost it gives to ones inside the dignity, the other resignation, all need to be raised to the Supreme Being, unknown and forgotten by their ungrateful creatures ". (Ibid., Sec. XXXI, item III.)

C. What is the way in which Kardec worked by bringing the Spiritism? 

Kardec said: "The flag we raise is loud Spiritualism Christian and humanitarian, around which we are happy to see so many men have come together at all points of the globe, because they understand that it is the anchor of salvation, a safeguard public order, the sign of a new era for humanity. invite all companies to compete for spiritualists this great work, that from one end to another of the world extend fraternal hands up and reap evil in intractable networks. "(Ibid., item 350.)

D. As Spiritism may bring, as predicted, the transformation of humanity? 

This target can only be achieved with the improvement of the masses, which can happen gradually, bit by bit just by improving the individuals. Indeed, that is worth believing in the existence of spirits, this belief is not made ??better, kinder and more forgiving and if the individual does not do more humble and more patient in adversity? What use to be covetous spirit if he remains miser the proud, you are always full of himself, the envious, you're always jealous? All men would then believe in demonstrations and humanity remain stationary. But these are not God's plans.

It is for the providential order that all societies should strive serious spiritualists, gathering around them all having the same feelings, then there will be unity between them, sympathy, fraternity and not a vain and childish antagonism of self-love of words before that fact, so they will be strong and powerful, because it will support an indestructible base: good for everyone, so be respected and to impose silence silly mockery, because they will speak on behalf of evangelical morality respected by all.
