Materialistic ideas and
their consequences
Forgive those who hurt us, pray for those who persecute or slander us, repay evil with good, here's three proposals made by Jesus that materialistic people cannot understand, because, in their view, such actions would be indicative of weakness, not courage.
In fact, you should look to the future and to spiritual reality, if we truly want to understand and - more importantly - to implement these and countless other teachings left by Jesus.
These, however, are not the most damaging consequences of the materialistic view of life, because, as everyone knows, suicide, euthanasia, abortion, crime against life and corruption - none of that matter to the person who convinced nothing exists once the body existence ends.
Such reasons why should be fought in the realm of ideas, the materialistic doctrines and, in particular, the materialistic attitude, or behavior of those who claim to be followers of this or that religion, and yet act as if they were not, which is evident in the acts of those who misappropriate public resources for personal enrichment and that, driven by greed, they resort to all means to accumulate assets that will one day have to leave.
In the book What is Spiritism, Kardec examined this question, when he explained that to combat materialism implies not attack people, but a pernicious doctrine that constitutes a real social scourge, when widespread.
It is very easy to understand that the denial of the future or the simple doubt about the continuity of life in another dimension constitute stimulating factors of selfishness, which is responsible for most of the ills of mankind.
With materialism, charity, fraternity, altruism all of that have become devoid of basis, and there is no reason to practice them or propagate its observance.
Of course, there may be - and certainly there are – really good and virtuous people adept to materialistic ideas, but this fact is rather an exception, because the theme of materialism, considered in itself, is another: "Every man for himself during his earthly life, because it ends up with everything", while alluding to the law that commands life, Jesus asserted that "all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do unto you, because this is the law and the prophets". (Matthew 7:12.)
