Estella was a
doctor, and
often, because
of her work she
was required to
provide services
in other cities,
such as advising
and lecturing,
which caused
great difficulty
for her family
because her
eight year-old
daughter, Carmen,
was very jealous.
Whenever she
needed to travel,
Estella faced a
crisis in her
home: her
daughter cried,
screamed and
kicked, begging
her mother not
to go traveling.
Certainly,
having assumed
commitments,
Estella could
not cancel them,
being forced to
leave home with
a heavy heart,
full of
compassion for
her daughter.
One day, at dusk,
Carmen watched
the sky from the
balcony of her
home with her
mother. The
moonless night
allowed to
better see the
stars shining in
the firmament.
Looking at the
points of light
that twinkled up
high, Carmen
noted that some
were more
visible and
bright than
others while
others were
almost not seen.
So, she asked
her mother: |
|
- Mommy, why are
the stars so
different? Look!
Some shine
brightly while
others we can
barely see...
they're so
dimmed. Did God
create them
different?
The mother
looked at the
infinite sky and
explained:
- Carmen, our
Heavenly Father,
who created all
that exists,
made them using
wise and fair
laws. The
difference
between the
infinite stars
that are in the
sky is because
there is a wide
diversity of
celestial bodies
in the universe,
such as stars,
planets, which
by the size and
the distance
they are from us
appear smaller
or larger ...
Let's think of
our planet Earth:
we are part of
the solar system.
We rotate around
the sun, which
gives us life
and warmth.
The surprised
girl recalled:
- Ah! My teacher
explained to us
that the Earth
is part of the
family of
planets
revolving around
the sun.
- That's right,
my dear. We
would have no
condition of
existence here
on Earth if we
didn't have the
sun's heat to
keep us warm.
The girl thought
for a moment and
considered:
- But in the
winter I feel
very cold and I
do not like it!
Why doesn't the
sun keep us warm?
The mother
thought for a
moment, looking
for the best way
to explain it
and at the same
time try to
focus on Carmen's
jealousy:
- Dear, when we
are close to
each other we
feel more
intensely the
love that exists
between us,
don't we? When
we are apart, do
we stop to love
each other?
- No, Mom. I
miss you but
always keep
loving you.
The mother
smiled at her
daughter's words
and continued:
- Exactly,
Carmen. The same
thing happens
with the sun. It
may be farther
away from us on
its trajectory,
that is, its
orbit, however,
it continues to
send us its heat
even from a
greater distance.
It is only that
the heat becomes
weaker. Get it?
Carmen, who
because of her
jealousy, lived
afflicted and
tormented,
thinking that
she was not
loved by her
parents as she
should, listened
to her mother
and understood.
She was silent
for a moment,
thinking. She
looked at the
sky then looked
at her mother
and said:
- Mom, do not
worry about me
anymore. When
you need to
travel, I will
understand and
accept it. I
understand now
that the fact of
you being away
from me does not
mean you love me
less.
|
The mother
hugged her
daughter and
added:
- That's right,
Carmen. Moreover,
we can always be
together by
thought, can't
we? Just like
God, our Father,
who is
everywhere and
whose love for
us we can feel
at any moment,
even without
seeing Him.
- It's true, Mom.
But we can also
talk on the
phone and get
back in touch!
|
- You're right,
dear - the
mother agreed,
smiling. |
Then the mother
opened her arms
and cradled her
little girl
against her
chest, certain
that she would
no longer have
problems with
her daughter
when she needed
to travel
because of work.
