Exchange Of
Favours
|
Once upon a
time, a little
caterpillar was
looking for what
to eat, when she
saw a beautiful
and appetizing
leaf nearby. She
crawled up there,
with difficulty,
and was
beginning to
devour it when
she saw a bird
looking for food
close by.
Startled, the
caterpillar
cringed, hoping
he would not see
her because he
was known as a
caterpillar-eater.
But the very
smart bird had
already seen the
beautiful
caterpillar that
crawled along
the leaf. |
|
He flew to her
and hooted:
- I'm sorry, Mrs.
Caterpillar, but
I need to take
you to my nest
where my chicks
are waiting for
food.
The caterpillar
cringed from
fear and
answered:
- I am also
cutting leafs to
take to my
shelter where my
babies await
hungrily. Have
mercy on me,
Mister Bird!
- But I cannot,
Mrs. Caterpillar.
And my children,
what will they
eat?
To what the
caterpillar
responded:
- OK. Let's make
a deal? As soon
as I bring food
to my offspring,
I will be at
your disposal.
|
The bird agreed
and waited for
the caterpillar
to finish
cutting the leaf.
Then the
caterpillar
crawled to the
spot where she
had left her
babies, as she
took the leaf
and the bird
followed.
Seeing the young
caterpillars,
the bird's
little eyes
glittered. He
was delighted
with the food
supply that he
could take to
his |
children.
The caterpillars
were very young
and yummy, and
he thought: My
babies will love
them! |
At that moment,
distracted, the
bird did not see
that a big
alligator,
coming out of
the water,
dragged itself
through the
riverside bushes.
Getting close to
the bird, it was
preparing to
bite him, when
the caterpillar
saw it, and
pitiful, warned
him:
- Mr. Bird,
watch out for
the alligator!
Hearing the
warning, he
quickly spread
his wings and
took flight,
escaping the
alligator's
teeth.
Then he came
back and thanked
the caterpillar:
- Were it not
for you warning
me in time,
|
|
Mrs.
Caterpillar, I
would have died
in the alligator's
huge mouth. Why
did warn me? |
The caterpillar
looked at her
babies and
replied:
- Because I
thought of your
offspring who
would be without
a father, and
felt sorry.
Because, if it
were me in your
place I would
not want my
babies to be
alone.
The bird
listened,
thought about it
and decided:
- Mrs.
Caterpillar,
thank you. I'm
leaving; I need
to get food for
my chicks.
The caterpillar
crawled a little
and asked:
- Mr. Bird, have
you given up on
using me as food?
The bird,
preparing to
flap his wings,
said:
- It is just
that I felt
sorry for you
babies, Mrs.
Caterpillar, who
would be without
their mother.
Goodbye!
Thus, flapping
his wings, the
bird took flight
in search of
food for his
young. He had
lost his prey
but he was
satisfied. He
could have
fallen into the
clutches of the
alligator and
never see his
offspring again.
Both the bird
and the
caterpillar
understood that
it is worth to
repay the good
that is done
towards us
because we start
friendships that
can be valuable,
even if in the
beginning we do
not believe it.
