Peace will not come
by decree

Originally from Latin pace, the word peace means absence of violence, wars and conflicts of external nature as well as absence of the soul’s calm and absence of inner conflicts.

The topic was discussed earlier in this same space when we commented the surprise of André Luiz, after spending eight years at the Threshold, to enter the colony "Our Home", where the scenery, and charming, was full of peace.(1)

Fifteen days ago, Divaldo Franco coordinated in Foz do Iguaçu (PR) another edition of Movement "You and Peace," which he created and has been performing since the year 1998, both in Brazil and abroad, with the aim of bringing people and institutions in the construction and development of peace and nonviolence.

In his many manifestations on the subject, Divaldo has remembered that violence, according to the definition given to UNESCO, it is a disease of the mind, the psyche, and it must be addressed at its source. That is the reason it takes us to begin the movement for peace in our home, loving more our children that are already beloved, loving more those who are not yet, and treating women with the respect and dignity that woman deserves.

Peace has been an issue for a long time.

This is how the theme appears in the pages of the Bible, both the Old and New Testament, in which is evidenced clearly the prerequisite to peace occurs:

If one of you says unto them: Depart in peace, warm you, and feast upon, and not give them the things needed for the body, what doth it profit? (James 2:16)

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. (James 3:18)

And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the operation of righteousness quietness and assurance forever. (Isaiah 32:17)

And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried captive, and pray for it to the Lord; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. (Jeremiah 29: 7)

For the rest, brethren, rejoice, be perfect, be comforted, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. (II Corinthians 13:11)

If possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. (Romans 12:18)

No peace for the wicked, say my God. (Isaiah 57:21)

But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. (Psalms 37:11)

In Spiritism, conditions that present as essential to peace become a reality in our life are presented very clearly in several texts:

Love is everywhere in nature, which invites us to exercise our intelligence; into the movement of the stars it is found. It is love that adorns nature of its rich carpets; it adorns and fixed abode where it encounters flowers and perfumes. It is still love that gives peace to men, calms the sea, silence the wind and sleep pain. (Summary of the doctrine of Socrates and Plato, n. XVI, The Spirits' Book, Introduction, IV.)

By what right would we demand better of our fellow proceed, more indulgence, more grace and devotion to us, than we have with them? The practice of these maxims tends to the destruction of selfishness. When it is adopted a rule of conduct and to base its institutions, men will understand the true brotherhood and it will happen among them the reign peace and justice. There will be no hatred or dissension, but merely, union, concord and mutual benevolence. (Allan Kardec, The Gospel According to Spiritism, Ch. XI, item 4)

That my brothers embodied believe in the friend’s word who speaks, telling you: It is charity in which ye must look for peace of heart, contentment of the soul, the remedy for the afflictions of life. Oh! When you are about to accuse God, cast a look down you; see the miseries alleviate, poor children without families, elderlies no friendly hand to sustain them and close their eyes when the death claim! (Adolfo, bishop of Algiers, The Gospel According to Spiritism, Ch. XIII, item 11)

My children, on the maxim: Without charity there is no salvation, it is enshrined the destinies of men on earth and in heaven; on Earth, because the shade that banner they will live in peace; in heaven, because those who practiced it will find thanks before Lord. This motto is the heavenly beam, the luminous column that guides man on the desert of life, forwarding him to the Promised Land. (Paul the apostle, The Gospel According to Spiritism, Ch. XV, item 10)

When, everywhere, God's law form the basis for human law, people will practice together charity as individuals. Then live happily and in peace, because no one will harm its neighbor, even to live at the expense of him. (The Spirits' Book, issue 789)

In the face of such clear teachings, it is evident that all of us - individually or collectively - we can contribute with our brick to the building of a more just society, more fraternal and united, thus creating the conditions that will make this orb a world of peace, as, incidentally, foresaw the psalmist.
