Ruben woke up in
a bad mood. Full
of problems to
solve, he would
find difficulty
in everything:
his shirt was
wrinkled, his
trousers were
stained, his
shoes were dirty.
His dedicated
wife tried to
solve all those
problems, but
the husband
complained:
- This is all
your fault,
Aurora, because
you spend the
whole day here
doing nothing
while I work
myself to the
bone to support
our home!
And his humble
wife would
explain as she
turned the iron
on to press the
shirt:
- Honey, the
children require
a lot of my
attention! Also,
the house is big
and I have to
clean it by
myself!
- No excuses,
Aurora. Be more
careful with my
things because I
can’t go to work
looking messy.
Sad, his wife
agreed. Charlie,
a smart kid,
would listen
quietly.
Suddenly, the
bell rang and he
went to answered
it, because his
mother was
pressing his
father's
clothes. It was
a gentleman.
- Good day! Is
your daddy home?
I need to talk
to him.
|
|
- He is getting
ready, but he
will soon come.
Please, take a
sit, sir. I will
call him. |
Charlie went up
to the room and
told his father
that a man was
waiting in the
sitting room.
- But who is he,
son?
- I do not know,
Dad. He said he
needs to talk to
you.
Aggravated,
Ruben shouted:
- And now this!
I'm late for
work and still
have to
entertain a
guest?
He finished to
get dressed,
combed his hair
and entered the
room already
making excuses:
- I'm sorry sir,
but I can’t see
you now. Look
for me another
time, because I
have no time now
- he said
buttoning his
sleeves, without
looking at who
it was.
Suddenly, he
looked up and
seeing the
visitor, he
flushed with
shame and
stuttered:
- Mr... Mr... Mr.
Horace! I am
sorry! I did not
know who was...
I thought it was
someone asking
for something...
- but the more
he spoke, the
more he got
himself in
trouble.
- Is this how
you welcome
people to your
home, Ruben? -
said the man
with a serious
look and calm
voice.
- No, sir, not
at all. It is
just that I was
late to go to
the work and had
no time, so...
Forgive me! But
to what do I owe
the honour of
your presence in
my house?
The visitor
looked at him
with an unhappy
expression and
said:
|
|
- In fact,
Ruben, I was
looking for you
because I
thought you were
the right person
for a job that
requires contact
with people and
a lot of
patience to
convince them to
buy our
products. But
unfortunately,
now you do not
seem the right
person for the
job.
Apologizing
again, Ruben
begged:
- Sir, give me
this opportunity
and I promise
you will not
regret it.
But Horace, the
owner of the
company, said:
- I'm sorry,
Ruben! We really
get to know
people in times
of difficulty.
You showed that
by little things
like a wrinkled
shirt, dirty
shoes or stained
trousers, you
change from an
exemplary father
and husband into
a demanding
dictator. I am
sorry but you
are not the kind
of person I
need.
- Mr. Horace,
are you laying
me off work? -
Ruben asked,
stammering with
fear.
- No, Ruben. You
will continue in
the same
position you are
now. But you
will not hold
the position
that I hoped to
give to you and
that would
represent a
promotion. So
long. I will see
you in the
office!
- Yes, sir! -
Ruben said,
relieved not to
have been fired.
When the boss
left, Ruben fell
into a chair,
very upset,
almost crying,
being hugged by
his wife and son
who said:
- Dad, I tried
to warn you but
you did not
listen to me!
- Honey, do not
worry. You will
have another
chance to be
promoted in the
company. I liked
your boss. He
seems to be a
good man - said
his wife,
consoling him.
Ruben wiped his
tears and said:
- Yes, he is a
good man. I am
the one who
needs to change
their behavior.
Be more patient
and tolerant
with everybody,
both in the
company as well
as here at home.
Forgive me! I
know I have not
been the ideal
husband and
loving father
that I would
like to be for
you. My son,
will you forgive
me?
- Honey, do not
worry. We love
you! - his wife
said.
- Dad, I have
asked a lot to
Jesus to help
you. Pray too,
and surely He
will help you!
Because Jesus
said that
whatever we ask
our Father, He
will grant us! -
Charlie added,
hugging his
father with much
love.
His father
pulled the small
boy to his chest,
gave him a tight
hug, and said:
- I'm sure of
that, son! For
God has given me
the best son any
parent could
have: You!
