The Dream

Caio was angry because he felt that his father smothered him, and that day, he screamed in tears:

- Dad, you do not let me do anything! Everything I want is dangerous, harmful or does not suit me! This is not right!...

The father, with great love, looked at his son and said:

- Caio, a parent's job is to look after the children who are placed under their care! It is an obligation of your mother and I to warn you not to do something when we see that it is dangerous. You are only seven, son! You know nothing about life and we have more experience than you. It is not out of malice but to preserve your life, son!

The boy, after crying a lot, would just accept it and embrace his father. But the next day, he would start it all over again.

Seeing her little boy on the backyard fence, trying to climb a tree, his mother yelled from the kitchen window:

- Caio! Don't do it, honey! It is dangerous; you might fall and get hurt. Get off of there!...

Caio, on the fence, replied:

- Mommy, there's no danger. I know how to climb up this mango tree! I've done it many times!

Terrified to hear what he had said, his mother replied:

- Well, that is good to know because I will not let you do it again. Get down from there!

Caio began to cry so much that he could not even get off the fence. His father, who had just arrived from work, seeing the situation, went into the yard and, holding out his arms, grabbed the child and put him on the ground. Then, very seriously, he said:

- Caio, I do not want you to do that again, you hear me?

- Nobody will let me do anything in this house! Everything is forbidden, I cannot do anything. This is not right, Dad - the little boy complained in tears, making a scene.

Full of compassion, his father took him in his arms and carried him into the house as if he were a little baby. Then, he explained:

- Son, it may seem that we are too hard on you but there are things that really, at your age, you still cannot do. When you grow up, it will be different. Try to understand. We love you very much and, therefore, want to take care of you with all our love. You have so many toys! Distract yourself with them, right here at home, in the garden, on the balcony, anywhere you want. Is that OK?

Still feeling very unhappy, Caio went to his room and laid on his bed sulking and thinking about it, and repeated to himself under his breath:

- My parents do not like me. If they did, they would let me do what I want. I cannot stand so much care!

That day, tired of crying, he fell asleep. He found himself in a beautiful place where someone showed him some scenes. Caio noticed himself different, wearing old clothes and in charge of everything. As his father was a very powerful and rich prince, he could do whatever he wanted. He felt like riding a horse and his father allowed it.

The handler of the horses warned the father saying that he should not allow the young boy to ride that animal because it was unreliable and wild. But the father, proud of his son, did not accept the recommendation of his servant, and ordered him to help the boy get on the animal. Full satisfaction, the little prince laughed and climbed on the horse. No one noticed that he had a sharp piece of metal in his hand. And to make the horse go faster, he pricked the animal with the object. Immediately, the horse reared, whinnying in pain, and the little boy fell on the ground.

- My son... - cried the father, startled to see the boy fall, and he ran to rescue the child, but the servant was much faster and approached the boy.

When the father got near, he noticed that his son had hit his head on a rock and was dead. Full of regret, the prince said in tears, desperate:

- My son! Why did I let you ride this wild beast? Now what will I do with my life? - he cried with a broken heart, feeling responsible for the boy's death. But, wanting to throw his anger on someone, he ordered the servant:

- Kill this horse! Kill it! I do not want to see it ever again!...

- Sir, but it was not the animal's fault - said the servant, full of pity.

And he showed the crying father the little piece of metal that was still in the child's hand.

At that moment, the prince understood that the animal only responded to the pain, which made the boy fall to the ground. And he understood that the fault actually was his, who as a parent, should have taken better care of his only son.

Caio woke up in his room, relieved to see that it was all just a dream. Remembering those interesting scenes he had seen, he understood that it was him who had lost his life falling off the horse.

And he understood that his father, the same father from that lifetime, was also reborn to receive him as his son, so that he could now take better care of him, in order to preserve his life.

Caio got up and went into the room where his father was reading the newspaper. To the amazement of his father, he sat on his lap and running a hand through his face, he said:

- Daddy, you can rest assured I'll never do anything you do not want. I will obey you and Mom. I do not want you to suffer again because of me. I love you so much, Dad.

Wide eyed, the father heard his son's words which seemed to came from a great understanding of what he was talking about as if he knew the reason for everything, and asked, surprised:

- Son, but why are you saying these things? Did something happen that I do not know? Tell me, Caio!

The boy smiled beautifully and shaking his little head, said:

- One day I'll tell you what happened, Dad. One day...
