The whole family
was sitting in
the living room
doing the study
of the Gospel at
Home. They all
interestedly
accompanied the
reading of the
text: "The
Parable of the
Good
Samaritan."
Enthralled by
the story, Zeze
promised himself
he would be like
the Good
Samaritan in the
parable. And the
next day, when
he left his home
to go to his
neighbour’s
Paul's house a
poor, dirty and
ragged man
passed by him.
On seeing him,
the man begged:
- Boy, could you
help me? I'm
hungry and I do
not have even a
coin to buy
bread. I'm tired
too because no
one has helped
me so far - and
so saying, he
sat down
dejectedly.
Zeze thought it
was Jesus who
had sent him
that poor man.
Then he asked
the man to wait
a little, ran
back home and
taking a mug
filled it with
coffee and milk,
then he made a
sandwich and
returned quickly
to the place
where the beggar
was sitting. He
walked up to him
and said:
- Here's your
lunch. I hope
you like it,
sir.
The man smiled
slightly and
replied:
|
|
- With so much
kindness, boy, I
am certain it
will be very
good and it will
make my heart
warm. Jesus
bless you!
While the beggar
ate, Zeze
noticed that he
needed clean
clothes. He went
back home and
told his mother
what was
happening and
she gave him a
change of
clothes that her
husband did not
use anymore.
Zeze returned to
the street and
gave his
father's clothes
to his new
friend.
- Oh, boy! I do
not deserve so
much kindness!
You've helped me
a lot today, and
I thank you from
the bottom of my
heart. Jesus
bless you for
this gesture of
kindness! Now I
need to go.
Surprised, Zeze
noted that he
had only eaten a
small portion of
the sandwich and
drank a sip of
the coffee with
milk. Asked if
it was not good,
the man said he
had saved the
rest to take to
his children.
The boy hung his
head sadly as he
watched the man
make his way
home with the
impression that
he should have
done more for
the poor man.
That same day,
Zeze went to the
grocery store
around the
corner to buy
tomatoes for his
mother and saw a
boy who was
smaller than him
injured and
crying, and
asked:
|
- What happened,
Julius?
- I fell and
hurt myself,
Zeze. Look at
it! It's hurting
a lot!...
Full of pity,
Zeze looked at
the wound and
remembered that
it is necessary
to keep it clean
because
otherwise it
could become
infected. So
Zeze looked
around and saw a
|
tap in
the
square.
He took
the boy
there
and
taking
off the
boy’s
shoes,
washed
the
wound
carefully,
as
Julius
looked
at him
in
surprise: |
- Zeze, where
did you learn to
treat injuries?
- It was with my
Mom, Julius. She
taught me that
the best way to
care for a wound
is to clean it
well otherwise
it might get
worse. Then wipe
it dry and put
on a remedy!
- Ah! I am glad
to have seen you
today, Zeze! If
it were not for
you, I could
have gotten
worse!...
- Do not worry,
Julius. Trust
Jesus and
nothing will
happen to you,
believe me. Now
I will say a
prayer and give
you healing so
you get well
soon.
After the prayer
and the healing,
Julius thanked
Zeze and
returned home,
happy, despite
the injury. His
mother asked him
what had
happened when
she saw him
arrive with a
knee injury and
he said it was
nothing… He had
fallen down but
Zeze had taken
care of him so
well that the
pain was
gone!...
Meanwhile, Zeze
went to the
grocery store,
remembering that
his mother
needed the
tomatoes, and
soon returned
home. Upon
arriving, his
mother said:
- What took you
so long, honey!
I thought you
had forgotten
about my
tomatoes!
- No, Mom! I did
not forget. I
had some trouble
on the way
there!
- What do you
mean, Zeze? -
his worried
mother asked.
- It was
nothing, Mom. I
stopped to help
a friend, that's
all.
- But what
happened,
darling?
- Nothing
important. Now
may I play a
little?
- Yes, you may.
When lunch is
ready I will
call you, Zeze.
Later on, his
mother went out
and ran into two
of her friends.
One told her how
Zeze had nursed
her son, who had
fallen on the
sidewalk. The
other told her
that she had
seen Zeze
helping a ragged
man on the
street.
- It is true! He
even asked me
for his father’s
old clothes to
give to this
man! - she
remembered.
Returning home,
Zeze’s mother
told him that
she had learned
that he had
helped people in
the street, and
the boy just
nodded his head
saying:
- Mom, I just
tried to do as
Jesus taught
us... Remember?
I did not want
Jesus to think I
was like the
priest or the
Levite, who did
nothing to the
poor injured man
in the
parable!...
His mother,
moved,
understood that
the previous
evening's lesson
had touched her
son, causing him
to act as the
Master had
taught. In
tears, she
hugged the
little boy and
elevated her
thoughts to
Jesus, saying:
- Dear Jesus, I
thank you for
the lessons that
You have left us
and the great
child You have
given us!
Thanks, Jesus!
