How did you
become a
Spiritist?
My wife was
sympathetic to
Spiritism, but
she respected my
religion,
Spiritism. One
day in 1994 I
was watching a
scene of A
Viagem (The
Journey), a
soap opera shown
on the Brazilian
TV network,
Globo, and
became really
interested in
the information
there. That is
when my wife
gave me The
Spirits’ Book
as a present.
How did you
become
particularly
interested in
the Gospel of
Jesus, which is
at the centre of
your talks?
I always had
great affinity
with the Gospel,
from the days
when I was a
Catholic. But
the beauty of
how Spiritism
deals with the
Second
Revelation is
something
compelling. I
had never seen
the Gospel
interpreted in
its primitive
purity in such
an engaging
manner.
What strikes you
the most in the
messages of the
Gospel?
The Gospel is a
divine mosaic.
You can find
there sermons,
direct and
indirect
lessons,
healing,
phenomena and
parables.
Everything fits
together in
order to
facilitate our
spiritual
enlightenment.
It is difficult
to say which
part strikes me
the most,
because the
Gospel is
perfect as a
complete work.
But I can’t deny
I have a soft
spot for the
parables.
Which of the
parables touches
your heart in
particular and
why?
Without a doubt
the parable of
the two sons,
also known as
the Parable of
the Prodigal
Son. We can see
there Christ
presenting a
completely
different view
to that of the
God of the
Hebrews. A
father who
stands by the
door of the farm
waiting for the
son (whom he
knows would
return
eventually!) and
who runs to meet
him and
reconciles him
with everyone
else is a
fabulous image
of our Father
the Creator.
Of all the
teachings of
Jesus, which one
would you
highlight as
essential for
our harmony and
relative
happiness, which
we can build and
live?
Without a doubt,
the great
synthesis that
is in Mathew 22:
To love God
above everything
else and other
people like
yourself. Jesus
takes this from
the First
Revelation. When
well understood,
this lesson from
Christ operates
“miracles” of
happiness and
understanding.
Based on the
experience of
the study groups
you coordinate,
what do you
think is the
reaction of the
public to the
Spiritist
explanation of
the Gospel?
The reactions
are very
diverse. Some
come to our
groups to study,
others are
attracted by the
phenomena, while
others join us
seeking
consolation. But
I feel that in
general the
Spiritist
message provides
comfort to all
of those who are
sincerely
seeking
plenitude,
regardless of
the initial
goals that get
them going.
What would you
like to say
about the
activities and
services
provided by the
Spiritist Centre
you are linked
to?
We all know the
importance that
each activity
has in a
Spiritist
Centre. We
attend the
different needs
of the soul in
whatever phase
of life. But I
would highlight
the role played
by the
evangelization
of children and
young people, as
well as the
study groups, as
essential for
the “liberation”
of the immortal
Spirit.
Is there any
particular event
from your life
in Spiritism
that you would
like to share
with us?
I would like to
say that there
is a clear
difference
between those
who attend the
systemized
courses teaching
the principles
of Spiritism and
those who don’t.
In our Group, we
study the Core
Works of Allan
Kardec for five
years. During
that time you
can see clearly
a change in
attitude in each
person attending
the course. When
they finish,
they are
completely
different
people. It is a
genuine process
of metamorphosis
that each one
goes through,
and that is
fantastic.
Is there
anything else
you would like
to add?
I would like to
remind you of
what the Spirit
of Truth tells
us in The
Gospel According
to Spiritism:
Spiritists, love
one another and
educate
yourselves. We
must direct our
feelings and
thoughts towards
the light and
progress,
always. May
Christ enlighten
the honest
workers on these
blessed fields,
strengthening
their faith and
their hope so
that they don’t
fail in the
commitment they
have made. And
that we,
Spiritist
workers, do not
neglect the
responsibility
we have accepted
for this, which
is without a
shadow of doubt
the best of all
our
incarnations.
