Father’s day was
getting closer
and Olive didn’t
know what do to:
— What shall I
give dad as a
present?
He thought about
it for a long
time but
couldn’t come to
a conclusion.
He knew mom
would buy a
present, but he
wanted to give
dad something
from himself;
something
created by him,
but it was so
difficult! He
had no money!
Besides, his dad
already had
everything.
He talked to
mom, but she was
also running out
of ideas.
She was rushing
to go out
shopping, gave
him a kiss
good-bye and
said:
— Olive, I would
like to give you
a task: Why
don’t you play
detective and
try to find out
what your dad
wants to get? Is
that ok? Let me
know later on
about your
findings and
then we will go
shopping.
The boy loved
it! He started
to do research
on the same day.
It was Saturday
and his dad was
planning to stay
at home for the
whole of the
day.
|
— Dad, I saw a
beautiful shirt
the other day
that looked just
like you.
— I have got
many shirts
already, my son.
— Oh!...
One hour later,
the boy said:
|
— Dad,
mom said
your
jeans
trousers
are
quite
old. I
think
you need
another
one,
don’t
you? |
His dad held his
newspaper and
said:
— I have got
many other
pairs, Olive.
Don’t worry
about it.
— Oh!...
He then later on
asked:
— My friend’s
dad bought a
beautiful red
tie. I really
liked it. What
do you think?
— I don’t like
this colour!
Besides, I don’t
like ties.
— Oh!...
Olive tried
everything:
books, socks,
shoes, but
didn’t manage to
get any
information out
of his dad. He
got a bit
disappointed by
the end of the
day. He then
started to think
for a while....
When his mom
came home, he
told her that he
didn’t manage to
get any
information out
of his dad. He
took a deep
breath and said:
— I don’t know
about you mom,
but I had a
think about it.
I now know what
to give to dad.
I won’t tell you
though. It’s a
secret.
On Father’s day,
Olive woke up
quite early.
When his dad got
up, he was
already in the
kitchen
preparing
breakfast.
— What happened,
son? You woke up
so early today!
He smiled and
said:
— I really
wanted to give
you a present,
dad. I wanted to
give you
something that
would be made by
me; something
that I would
have to make an
effort to
provide you
with. I wanted
to show you how
much I like you.
Please sit down.
I will get your
breakfast.
He noticed his
son had set up
the table. He
sat down and
waited for his
breakfast,
feeling quite
emotional.
The boy brought
milk (he warmed
it up on the
microwave),
soluble coffee,
orange juice,
fruit, biscuits,
bread and
butter.
Olive then
offered it to
his dad: he
placed milk and
coffee at his
cup, cut bread
and put butter
on it. He felt
really proud of
|
|
seeing
his dad
eat it. |
|
— You should eat
as well, my son.
— Maybe later,
dad. I am now
serving you.
His dad was
really glad to
see his child’s
kindness. He ate
a lot at
breakfast time.
Once he finished
it, Olive then
asked:
— Do you want
anything else,
dad? Would you
take some extra
coffee with
milk?
— No, son. I am
really happy
today.
Olive then ran
towards his dad
and said:
— HAPPY FATHER’S
DAY!
His dad hugged
him strongly and
said with tears
in his eyes:
— I am sorry, my
son, if I
disappointed you
on the other
day. I realised
you were trying
to find out what
I needed, but I
didn’t want you
to spend any
money with me.
He then looked
at his son and
said with love
and kindness:
— My son, this
is the best
present I ever
got from anyone!
Thank you!
