A recipe to ward
off evil spirits

 
Every time someone who is involved in an obsessive process searches aid in a Spiritist Centre, people, especially his/her family, imagine the positive result will occur quickly, which does not always happen.

Do the good spirits, the spiritual protectors who were called to the rescue, are weaker than the causer Spirit of obsession?

No. That's not what happens. It’s not the good spirit that is weaker: the person who is not strong enough to shake the cloak thrown over him/her, to get rid of the embarrassment that entwine arms and in which, it must be said, sometimes delights. Now, if the person prefers delighting himself/herself in that constrains involvement, the spiritual friend can do little or nothing.

Let’s suppose, however, that the person really desires to get rid of this yoke and yet she can’t. What is the explanation?

Examining this issue, Kardec explains that not always the desire, in cases like that is enough, because the task of dispossession is kind of fighting an opponent. If two people are fighting who has stronger muscles overthrows the other.

In obsessive processes, it is necessary not to fight melee, but the Spirit to Spirit; and it is still here that the stronger dominates, in which in this case the strength is in the moral authority that it can take on the Spirit.

Strive to be good, to become better if it is good now, to purify itself of its imperfections, in a word: rise morally as much as possible, this is the means to acquire the power to dominate the inferior spirits and thereby driving them away.

But – some people still wonder – cannot the protective Spirits order the bad spirit departs?

Undoubtedly, they can and sometimes do; however, allowing the fight, they leave the victim also the merit process of victory. If they leave them to debate themselves worthy people in some ways, it is to prove their endurance and make them gain more strength in the well, which it will be, for them, a kind of moral gymnastics.

No doubt that many people would prefer a practical recipe for the expulsion of evil Spirits. Who knows? Some phrases, some cabalistic signs, which would be more convenient than correcting their defects. No one knows, however, no effective means to overcome an enemy but being morally stronger than him.
